Enrolment
Eligibility

The student must be enrolled in a NSW secondary school recognised by NESA.

Process

Parents must complete the ‘Tutoring Enrolment’ form on the Synapse Tutoring website to request our tutoring services and provide the information necessary to allocate an appropriate tutor. The handling of personal information is outlined in our Privacy Policy.

Parents will receive a confirmation email of the enrolment request that notifies them that they are on the tutoring waitlist. Synapse Tutoring will make efforts in using its discretion to allocate a tutor as soon as possible.

Parents will be notified via email when a tutor has been allocated, along with the contact details of the tutor. Parents are made aware that the tutor will contact them to discuss the student and arrangements including online or face-to-face lessons and lesson times.
Services
Lessons

First lessons are run on a trial basis, whereby parents are not invoiced if they or their student do not wish to continue with the tutor that was allocated. If they do wish to continue, then an invoice will be issued and arrangements are made between the tutor and parent for the frequency, duration and location of subsequent weekly lessons.

If the student is unable to attend their weekly lesson, then the tutor must be contacted as early as possible. An alternative lesson time for that week may be scheduled, dependent on tutor availability.

It is the responsibility of the tutor and the parent to agree on preferred lesson times, durations, frequency and location. Face-to-face lessons will inccur a small surcharge to compensate the tutor’s travel (see Fees and Invoicing).

Extra Support
Parents are welcome to communicate directly with their student’s tutor to discuss lesson times and alterations and other matters regarding the student.

Students are encouraged to seek the support of their tutor outside of lesson times. This may include assistance with specific content or questions, advice on revision or assessment preparation or other academic matters. Tutors will do their best to respond promptly. Convenient and efficient means of communication are established between the tutor and the student based on their preferences.
Progress Reports

Accompanying fortnightly invoices are summaries of the lessons from the previous two weeks written by the tutor. They include brief comments on what was covered in each lesson, what skills they and the student are working on, improvements made by the student and the tutors plan for subsequent lessons. As mentioned above, parents are welcome to seek further updates via direct communication with the tutor.

At the conclusion of each term, tutors compose a progress report that provides a detailed outline of student improvement across the term.

Attendance

It is expected that tutors are notified as early as possible if a student is unable to attend a lesson. Tutors will make efforts to arrange an alternative lesson time that week.

Discontinuing with a tutor

We request that parents provide 2 weeks notice prior to choosing to discontinue with a tutor for any reason.
